Having young children in the home, you will find that you need to think about some things that you might not have considered in the past. For example, when you plug something into a wall receptacle, your child might be watching and might decide that he or she wants to plug something in, too. There is no need to tell you what the danger with that would be. To prevent this from happening, there are a few different methods.

Of course, your first step should be to inform your children of the danger, but this might not be very effective, especially with younger children. There are also plastic inserts that will block the receptacle, but a persistent child might be able to remove these. A better method is to install tamper-resistant receptacles, but this will take some work. Tamper-resistant receptacles will only open up if something is inserted into both sides of the receptacle with equal force. This will prevent your children from inserting something and getting electrocuted.
